ANNUAL REPORT-2017-2018

 Educating the mind without educating the heart is not education at all”. Mahatma Central School is striving to fulfill these philosophical words. The academic year  2017-2018 witnessed a number of activities based on our theme of the year ‘Beyond Classrooms”. By the plentiful grace of the God Almighty, enthusiasm, unsustained efforts and dedication in moulding up future generation have made us a synonym for innovative education. The growth and development of the institution is very much enviable and has been able to accomplish its goal in academic and various other disciplines. At present we have classes 1 to 12 which are well managed by a team of well qualified, experienced and dedicated team of teachers and non-teaching staff.

Staff Orientation Programme.

Before the onset of the academic year, we had a one week staff orientation programme, which was inaugurated by the Chief Education Officer of our institution, Mr. N. M. George  and ended up with a One-day workshop on various subjects of relevance.

Our Science and Mathematics teachers attended the class by the National Trainer,   Mr. Ramachandran, conducted by Vanchinadu Sahodaya School Complexes at Hotel Shah International, Kollam.

The Principal attended All Kerala Principal’s Conference held at Kochi and other training programmes.

The Opening Day

The school opening day, ‘Back to School’ started with a prayer led by the teachers and the students. The traditional lamp lighting ceremony associated with ‘Thamasoma Jyothir Gamaya marked the beginning..

Academics   With the aim of keeping up the saga of success, the school has outlined a detailed plan to make our students excel in their academic performance. Apart from the various subject teachers we have a team of enthusiastic, co-curricular trainers for physical education, karate, guitar, keyboard, Thabala, art and craft, dance and music. We have a group of well trained and dedicated teachers spending extra time aiming at the holistic development of the children.

Our KG Section has a different experience of learning through the Letterland System. They go through various activities which helped them to develop their socio-emotional and cognitive skills. We provide a child centred teaching learning process which enables each child to learn by themselves exploring their own maximum potentials. A play area has been added to make every child to enjoy the school time. MCS Blooms-2017, meant for the lower classes was a memorable experience for both the parents and the children. The progammes were divided as Little Artist, Little Creator and Little Thinker. They also had fruits and vegetables day and they celebrated different colour days.

 In the beginning of the academic year, students were divided into Compassion, Courage, Loyalty and Wisdom. We also have different clubs like, Literary Club, Nature Club, Sports Club etc. The nature club has a vegetable garden in the school.

Different Activities of the year-2017-2018

World Environment Day

We were able to induce the idea of World Environment Day slogan ‘Connecting People with Nature’. Our school observed World Environment Day in a vibrant manner. The main attraction of the day was the cleaning of Kollam Beach by Nature Club. Students planted a number of tree saplings in the school campus and all the students were given tree saplings to be planted at home.

Student Council

The General School election conducted in a democratic manner with ballot voting aimed at creating a sense of responsibility to prepare the students a better civic life in the future. The election was followed by the investiture ceremony with Master. Alexander P Prasad and Kum. Noufiya Nizar as the school prefects.

Hiroshima Day

On Hiroshima Day, the students had a cycle rally starting from Madannada passging through the National Highway via Pallimukku to School, giving the message that the humanity doesn’t need any war in future. We had a road show at the inaugural point. I take this opportunity to thank the Department of Police and the public for their co-operation.

The school has a campus radio BCMCS Spark and they conduct a number of useful and entertainment programmes.

Teachers Day

On teacher’s day, the students gave a pleasant surprise for the teachers by conducting a special assembly. The student teachers headed by student principal took over the Day’s  function.

Children’s Day

The children’s day was celebrated by the teachers. They dedicated a cultural programme for the students. An open debate was also conducted for the children.

The love and care that the students of MCS share is worth noted. They joined hands with the charity programme ‘Oru Cheru Punchiri’ by the management and our students sponsored 5 students from different parts of the country. We also had a different experience in sharing happiness with the inmates of Karunyatheeram as a part of Christmas

Youth Festival

Our School youth festival MCS Rhythm-2017 was held in the month of August. A lot of students showcased their talents on the day. 25 students from our school participated in Vanchinadu Sahodaya Youth Festival, and we got  points. Three items were selected for the State Level..

Sports Fiesta

We had our sports Fiesta in the month of December. Our School Football team participated in the Reliance Club Youth Football Tournament and came upto the Final.

Independence Day

Along with the whole nation we celebrated the Independence Day in a befitting manner. We conducted a rally upto Eravipuram Junction. We also had different competitions like public speaking, quiz competition, poster design in connection with the day. Kum. Aleena of class IX A got 2nd Prize in the Interschool Quiz Competition.

We teach the students the value of secularism not in theory but in practical too. By celebrating all the religious festivals with great zeal and enthusiasm. The floral designs, Tug of war, etc for Onam, Christmas tree, Christmas Carol, arrival of Santa clause etc for Christmas, Mehandi design were the spectaculars of Festivals. In October, the students of class X and XII had an exciting trip to Coorg and Mysore.

World Space Week

We observed the World Space Week in the month of October. We had re-created a Space Model and a replica of launching space vehicles.

Radio spark also had an interview with a Scientist from Brahmos Missiles. Science Club students had a visit to VSSCon a launching Day.

Our school quiz participated in All Kerala South Zone Quiz competition arranged by ISRO and came to the 4th position. Master Dhanush of class X made a powerpoint presentation on India’s space achievements. So we are so proud to say that we give maximum exposure to our students and make them aware of the challenging technological era.

During reading week, we conducted a book exhibition and reading competitions for the LP Section. Class libraries were formed in each class.

Health is Wealth

90% of our students took MR Vaccination and participated in deworming programme initiated by World Health Organization. Thanks to the Health Department for their concern.

On Global Handwashing Day, the students of standard VIII visited 25 nearby houses giving pamphlets and talking about the importance of hygiene.

We believe that ‘Educating the Mind without the heart is not education at all’. We incorporated different programmes and organized a life skill day. A General counseling wasgiven to the students of higher classes and we showed the film ‘Komal’ on child abuse. Good touch and bad touch were also explained to our little kids.

  All are equal and we care each and every student of this institution. Reading support is given to the children who find it difficult to read by everyday special reading class.

A day with the teacher was another exciting and value enhancing programme. Selected students spent a whole day at the teacher’s home experiencing the traditional Gurukula system of learning. So in every sense we tried to make sure that the motto of the year ‘Beyond Classrooms’ has reached to each and every student of the school.

Annual Day . Pranamam 2018 was another great event we had based on the theme Respect. Our programme of The Day started with the  Guruvandhanam and ended with Vandematharam saluting the nation.

Conclusion

In short, every day was a new day for pupils with myriad experiences. Every day is started with an invocation to the almighty and ended graciously with a thanks giving prayer.  Our mission is to inculcate human values among children, love, punctuality, obedience, discipline, respect to others, empathy towards the downtrodden above all love and thanks to the God Almighty.
